He had been in mediation for hours. At this point, his quarters in the Jedi Praxeum was shrouded in darkness where they had been bathed in sunlight when he began his meditations. Since his marriage to Mara Jade, they had primarily lived in their apartment on Corucant in the Imperial Palace. With Mara Jade’s upcoming mission to Osarian and Rhommamool and time spent entertaining the Chiss ambassador just before departure, he chose to journey to Yavin IV and check in on the training being conducted. Over the past several weeks however he had felt, for lack of a better term…. Unsettled. Something had caused the Force to become unbalanced, and he was set to find out what.

Here, on Yavin IV, he could use the planet itself as well as the large number of Force users here as a natural focus of the Force. Doing so made him feel uneasy, and was one of the many practices he felt walked near the Dark Side of the Force. At the same time the Jedi Masters of the Old Order did the same on Coruscant in their own meditations. That knowledge did not rid him of his unease.

As he sat in the Force, it was still hard to gain any true insight. The unbalance of the Force became clear as he peered into it, as his meditations were chaotic. Glimpses into the past, the present, and many different futures with no particular order. Nothing seemed to bring anything into focus, no matter how hard he tried to focus on singular events he saw. Some of the future events he saw were startling.

A moon crashing into a planet. The New Republic turning into an Empire. Unknown aggressors. The galaxy turning against the Jedi. The impression of death from Chewbacca, Anakin, and Jacen. The return of the Sith. The Sith. Were they the cause of this unbalance?

Suddenly and violently the vision finally focused. Everything went black. Slowly, small points of light appeared. With them, his vision slowly cleared. He could not see, but could gain a vague impression of his body when he looked down. The points of light continued to increase. Soon shapes came into view as they illuminated. Spirals. Galaxies!

His view was then blinded by an explosion of light, which he attempted to shield his eyes from but it seemed to be a futile effort. After some time, his vision returned to him, and when he looked out, he was awed by the view. He was standing atop the galaxy, and he could see the countless galaxies and stars across the universe from the galaxy’s perspective. It was as if he were viewing the universe itself.

It was not long before he felt the galaxy shift on its axis. It was subtle. Like a brief sensation of vertigo. But slowly and deliberately it began to shift. He looked down. Small shadows danced throughout the galaxy. Slightly shifting the galaxy’s tilt, but it was definitely shifting in one direction. He looked towards the direction of the shift and noticed a shadowy mass slowly making its way from intergalactic space towards the galaxy.

As the large shadowy mass became closer to the galaxy, the shadows dancing throughout the galaxy became larger and more numerous. He noticed that the shadows within the galaxy largely stayed along its edges, within the confines of the Outer Rim, Unknown Regions, and Wild Space; rarely venturing outside of those realms.

As he stood his ground in the middle of the galaxy, he was soon reaching the point where he could no longer stand, and began to slide towards the encroaching mass of shadows. Once the mass reached the edge of the galaxy, the shadows within the galaxy seemed to focus on particular points in the galaxy, primarily along the vector of the mass. Small tendrils began reaching out from the mass, touching galaxy, and pulling on it as some of the tendrils massed into a singular point. The tendrils continued to spread, reaching into the Unknown Regions, circling around what seemed to be Imperial Space and the northern reaches of the Outer Rim, focusing on the same vector as the mass.

Suddenly, and unexpectedly, as the mass meet the edge of the galaxy and began to merge into it, at the precise moment he felt himself begin the very first moments of falling, the shadows vanished. Their weight gone, the galaxy shifted backwards, causing him to land on his back. With this motion the galaxy began to spin, like a top let loose. As it spun rapidly, the galaxy wobbled. He found it increasingly difficult to stay on the galaxy, as he was slowly pulled out to the edge.

Finally, he slipped off the galaxy, and proceeded to fall through the universe. He could see the galaxy continue to wobble and spin as he fell. Slowly, the galaxy faded from view as he continued to fall, the view of the galaxy shifting as he fell. He felt a violent and hard thud which echoed across his entire body, causing him to gasp for air as if he had reached the utter limit of using breath control.

He was now in his room. As he regained consciousness he began to hyperventilate and sweat profusely. He found it slightly disturbing when it took him an unexpected amount of time to gain control over his body. After several minutes he was under control and rising from his meditation pose. Then is when he felt the full ache of his muscles. Clearly he had been in meditation for several hours, but his body felt like he had been in meditation for several days.

As quick as could be managed with the ache his body felt at the moment, he made his way to the sink in the room to get a drink of water. Several actually. After a moment, a worried warble came from R2-D2.

“I’m fine,” was all he could manage.

After some thought, he walked his way towards his bed.

“I just need to rest… and think on what I even saw.”
